Resin Coin Art

ABOUT ME

I am a 3rd generation ex-banker whose family have been collecting numismatics for over 100 years. I have amassed a large collection of foreign bank notes and coins over my career, and I do not believe in hoarding these privately.  Rather, these coins could be used as ingredients in my coin art as a means of stimulating interest and debate amongst viewers. Each coin is truly unique, and we will never know just how many people from all over the world have held these and what their circumstances have been when trading these currencies, perhaps joy, pain and suffering, fear or greed?  The sheer diversity of coins used in each art piece serves to unify and bring nations together, albeit figuratively.

My work started around April 2020 and has been centered around numismatics and my very first project “The Money Tree” was created out of somewhat limited materials and resources at my disposal during the very first #hard Lockdown in April / May 2020.  Like virtually everyone else on the planet at that time I had a vast amount of time on my hands for deep introspection.  It was during that time that the idea of ‘decumulation’ came to mind in that I decided to rather repurpose my vast numismatic collection as a means of using coins to express myself as a total novice and amateur artist.

After completing “The Money Tree” I continued to experiment with different media and started having a lot of fun making various art pieces and using coins as ingredients in portraying certain messages which will hopefully be shared and viewed someday.
